Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola told the club website that he will consider playing midfielder Ilkay Gundogan despite starting him on Wednesday against Borussia Monchengladbach.

The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder made his debut for the club in the Champions League win, but Guardiola is concerned the club could be overworking him if they start him against Bournemouth on Saturday.

“We had for the weather one more day regeneration, now we have one less but it is what it is," the manager said.

"We have to use the players every few days. I’m thinking about it - I don’t know. He played good but we cannot forget he comes from a long-term injury. We’ll see today, we’ll talk to the doctors."
