Manchester City have announced the signing of Wolfsburg midfielder Kevin De Bruyne to a six-year contract on a transfer fee reportedly worth around £54million, just £6million short of setting a Premier League record, with the possibility to rise to £58million after add-ons.
"I want to reach the highest level possible as a player and I think the most important thing is that at the end of the season we can be happy and maybe have some titles," De Bruyne told the club website.
"I think this is the most important for the Club, the players and for the fans of course."
The agreement ends a summer-long saga between the two clubs and the 24-year-old Belgian, who returns to the Premier League after leaving Chelsea for the Bundesliga side in January 2014.
In 72 appearances in all competitions for the German side, De Bruyne recorded 33 assists to go with his 20 goals.
The attacker becomes City's eighth signing of the summer, following star signings Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Otamendi.
“We are very happy to have added Kevin to our team and I have no doubt that he will be a big success on his return to the Premier League," manager Manuel Pellegrini said.
“It takes a special footballer to improve our squad and I have no doubt that Kevin is certainly one of those – he has all of the mental, physical, tactical and technical attributes required to fit straight in.
