Bayern Munich president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed the club had turned down a massive offer for forward Thomas Muller this summer.

The German said the offer came from an English club as Manchester United were linked with the prolific forward throughout the summer.

"I'm talking about figures which were very high indeed. If I were a bank manager then I would have had to accept it," Rummenigge told the "Evening Standard".

"But as a football club we allowed ourselves to close the door on it, and this door is remaining closed. I can promise that to everybody.

United were reported to have submitted a £60million bid for Muller, while also offering a£1million-a-month wage package.

Rummenigge also said the increase of television money in the Premier League will only make English club's spending power and leverage in the transfer market even more formidable.

"But one thing is for certain, in view of the increased television money in England things are not going to get any easier for Bayern in future."
